Pellet Therapy
In a world of deteriorating food quality, increasing toxic chemical loads, and high stress, hormonal decline is occurring at an earlier age than ever. We are outliving our hormones. The choice is not whether to use bio-identicals, but what form of bio-identicals to use.
Pellet therapy is rapidly gaining acceptance as the one form of hormone replacement that most closely replicates the natural hormones of the body. Pellet therapy uses plant based, bio-identicalsto create true hormone replacement. These hormones, includingestrogen and testosterone, are identical in molecular structure to the hormones produced by the human body. This is not the hormone substitution offered by synthetic, patented hormone drug replacement. In Dr.Faria’s experience, bio-identicals are both safer and more effective.
Meeting Your Individual Needs
There will be a comprehensive hormone blood paneltwo weeks prior to the “pellet-implant” date.Upon receiving your results,Dr. Faria will review everything with you and assist you in deciding what hormone(s), and what dosage of each hormone your body needs. A second blood test is done 4-5 weeks after the pellet implant to determine the peak influence of the pellet(s). For women, a third blood test is necessary to test the longevity of the pellets 4-5 months later. The same is done for men between 8-9 months later. During those active months, dosages for Viagra maybe reduced.
The Out-Patient Procedure
Each hormone pellet looks like a very tiny cylinder. First, Dr. Faria numbs the skin of the upper hip with lidocaine. After this, she makes an incision no more than1/18 of an inch long and inserts the pellets into the fat pad directly beneath the skin. She covers the insertion site with a small piece of tape. The longest part of the procedure is waiting for the numbing cream to be effective. The insertion itself is less than two minutes long and the only restriction for the patient is to curtail exercise for the rest of that day.
Many women receive only one testosterone pellet. If a woman has declining or low estrogen levels, an estradiol pellet is also inserted. For men who are receiving testosterone, the insertion can involve as many as nine or ten pellets of testosterone at one time.
Pellet Benefits
Drugs for insomnia, depression, sexual dysfunction, obesity, diabetes, hypertension, dry eyes, and migraines will be needed less or not at all. The increased energy level provided by pellets allows for cutting back on supplements needed to stimulate energy, stamina and strength, and an increased quality of life. Best of all, pellets free you from the need to remember to apply cream or swallow pills.
There is a consistent release of small, physiologic doses of hormone to provide optimal therapy. Pellets provide a self-adjusting hormonal dose. If the person is quite active, there is an increase in blood flow around the pellets that provides for a greater amount of hormone release. When the person sits down to rest and blood flow decreases, the amount of hormone released also decreases. This is the way the body was made to function.
Benefits for Women
What can a woman look forward to with bio-identical pellets? Mental clarity, improved mood, increased bone density at up to four times higherrate than oral calcium-replacement therapies, diminished migraine headaches, enhanced energy and vitality, sound and consistent deep sleep, no more dry eyes, and renewed sex drive are the usual rewards of pellet therapy. Women report feeling more in control of their bodies and their lives. Zest for life and motivation return, and response to exercise is heightened. Physical performance, balance and strength are also increased, as are concentration and memory. Skin tone and hair texture/thickness improve with pellets, and most women tend to look younger.
The effect of the pellet is almost immediate. Many women report symptom relief a matter of days following insertion. Others report an incredible feeling of well-being descending upon them 4-5 weeks after receiving their pellets. For women who have been hormonally deprived for years, getting pellets is like coming out of the shadows into the sunlight again.

Pellet Costs
Insurance will usually cover the cost of the lab work, unfortunately insurance companies haven’t caught on to the idea of covering the total cost of something that would end up saving them so much money in the long run. Many traditional Doctors are not aware of the benefits of testosterone in women or hormone replacement in the aging-population. It is a wonderful option to consider for a better quality of life and less annoying symptoms of menopause and andropause.
